Preserving New Braunfels regularly hosts walking and driving tours and special events highlighting buildings and places in our community. These are led by volunteers who have knowledge of our town and the historical record encapsulated by the building and location.

A Cottage Style House Owned by New Braunfels Banker and Mayor Falls into Disrepair

Located at the corner of Garden Street and Seguin Avenue is a now white, gingerbread festooned house which is slightly listing and obviously vacant. It wasn’t once in this condition, but was a vibrant, life-filled home of New Braunfels Mayor, F. G. Blumberg serving in that role between 1922 and 1924. Today the house is derelict though recently painted and an example of one of many similar houses that lined Seguin Street as one of the main thoroughfares into the city. The house is a fine example of cottage style architecture, popular in the late 19th and early 20th century and one of the few large examples of this type remaining in the city. Though outwardly appearing in rough conditon, the house is reportedly sound and in good interior condition.  To learn more, continue reading:
