News and Events

Preserving New Braunfels regularly hosts walking and driving tours and special events highlighting buildings and places in our community. These are led by volunteers who have knowledge of our town and the historical record encapsulated by the building and location.

Preserving New Braunfels

March 13, 2025

It’s appropriate that this inaugural blog post connects to an article appearing in our local newspaper, The Herald Zeitung from one of our great local institutions, the Sophienburg Museum and Archives https://sophienburg.com/. We’ve many multi-generational businesses, landmarks, parks, and natural features that exist because of a deliberative effort from those who came before us to make their lives and their city better. The Sophienburg Museum and Archives was established to retain and share information about the early years of the city of New Braunfels. Our organization, Preserving New Braunfels is a non-profit dedicated to our city, the past and present, with a mission to bring attention to our local people, places, culture, and institutions. A recent article in the Herald Zeitung by long-time director Tara Kojhlenburg, A time-traveling tour of West San Antonio Street https://sophienburg.com/west-san-antonio-street-now-and-then/ is a look back and to the present, showing how progress doesn’t have to leave the best of the past behind.
